What is Gonarthrosis?

Gonarthrosis is the medical term for arthritis of the knee. Gonarthrosis is a term used to describe arthritis in the joints of the knee. The word “gon” comes from the Greek word for “knee”, while “arthrosis” means “joint inflammation”.

Who suffers from gonarthrosis?

Gonarthrosis is a condition that affects the knee joint. It is characterized by degenerative changes in the joint, leading to inflammation and pain. The condition is most common in people who are middle-aged or older, but can also affect younger people.

Gonarthrosis most commonly occurs in people over 65 years old, but it can also occur in younger people who have osteoarthritis or rheumatoid arthritis.

Anyone who has had an injury or trauma to their knee may be at risk for gonarthrosis.

How is Gonarthrosis Diagnosed?

The most common cause of knee osteoarthritis (gonarthrosis) is the gradual breakdown of the cartilage and joint lining. Other causes include:

Damage to the knee joint from an injury or trauma

Aging, which can lead to changes in the structure of your joints

Genetic factors that cause abnormal development of your joints or connective tissues

How does Gonarthrosis occur?

Gonarthrosis is the medical term for arthritis of the knee joint.

It occurs when there is chronic inflammation of the joint lining, causing damage to the cartilage that covers the bones at the knee. This can lead to pain, stiffness and swelling. It is most commonly seen in people over 50 years of age and women are more likely to suffer from it than men.

Gonarthrosis usually develops when the cartilage that cushions the ends of bones in your joints wears away. This causes friction between two bones and can cause pain when you move your joint.

What are the treatments for Gonarthrosis?

There are many ways to treat gonarthrosis, including:

  • Physical therapy to strengthen and stretch the muscles around the joint
  • Medications that reduce inflammation and decrease pain
  • Brace or splint to stabilize and protect the affected joint

For mild cases, you can try using ice packs or heating pads on your knee to help reduce inflammation and swelling.

For more severe symptoms, doctors may prescribe medication to reduce pain and inflammation. Surgery may be an option if other treatments aren’t effective at relieving your symptoms.

What are the exercises for Gonarthrosis?

The exercises for Gonarthrosis are:

Walking

It is one of the best ways to exercise. It helps in improving your flexibility and strength. It also helps in reducing pain, stiffness and swelling.

Static Stretching

This can be done by standing on one leg and keeping the other leg straight out in front of you with toes pointed downwards. Now hold this position for about 10 seconds and then repeat with other leg.

Range of Motion Exercises

This can be done by lying down on your back with both legs straight out in front of you and then slowly bend your right knee towards your chest while keeping your left knee straight out in front of you so that it forms a 90 degree angle with the floor; hold this position for 5 seconds and then repeat with other leg as well.

Strengthening Exercises

You can perform various strengthening exercises like squats, lunges, heel raises etc which helps in strengthening muscles around knee joints thus reducing pain and stiffness associated with gonarthrosis
